What should my tire pressure be?

posted Jan 10, 2011, 12:48 PM by Michael Gardner

Most experienced road cyclists inflate their tires to 100-130 psi. The heavier the rider, the higher the tire pressure required. But before you pump up your tires, check on the sidewall of your tire for the recommended pressure. Most road tires have a maximum of 100 – 145 psi, and mountain bike tires have a maximum of 40 – 65 psi.

Note: Your tires are much less resistant to punctures at lower tire pressures (this is the opposite of a balloon, where the higher you blow up a balloon the more easily it pops).
